Beyond Brookwood

The final production week

We just returned from a whirlwind trip to Texas where we filmed for three days in three different locations.

This was our final production run for this project and I’m already feeling nostalgic.

We haven’t shared much about the details of this film, but there is more to the story than Brookwood in Brookshire.

Expanding the film

As I mentioned in my last post, the founder of Brookwood Yvonne Streit made us promise from day one that this story wouldn’t be about her. Staying true to our word, we expanded the scope to focus on the community of adults with special needs as a whole.

This has allowed us to explore some of the many other organizations that were created from the example and guidance that Brookwood has been able to provide.

One of those organizations is BiG, Brookwood in Georgetown.

Growth of Brookwood

Erin Kiltz, the founder of BiG discovered Brookwood in 2011 while searching for a post high school solution for their daughter Gracie. It was love at first sight. Erin describes the experience as living in a world of black and white then everything suddenly turning to color.

After many return visits and a desire to keep Gracie close to home, Erin and her husband John decided to launch a pilot program in their hometown of Georgetown, Texas.

Today they have grown into a full blown operation and are putting the finishing touches on a residential community called Grace Place set to open at the end of the year!

It was an absolute honor to visit BiG and capture their citizens and staff. It is such a beautiful testament to the Brookwood legacy and the path they have paved for others out there to emulate their philosophy.

Next steps

Our team is excited to have the final puzzle pieces of the film back here in Athens and we will have our heads down in the editing room until it is ready!

In the meantime, mark your calendars!! We are excited to announce that the first showing of the film will be at a red carpet premiere on January 26th in Houston, Texas.

There are a ton of surprises in store for the evening so be sure to follow along as I release more information in the coming weeks.
