The Brookwood film is in honor of my Mom, Gracy Hall.
Thanks to her and my dad, I had the fortune of growing up around The Brookwood Community. It is a privilege to follow their citizens in our latest Chispa House documentary.
My parents have been volunteering at Brookwood for over 15 years. In high school I would come out to spend New Year’s Eve and other special events with the citizens.
I went on to study and teach special education and ultimately co-founded a non-profit that empowers adults of all abilities, Love.Craft Athens.
Through all those experiences I also had the opportunity to work on films at Chispa House with a passion to share the spark of others.
Then in 2020, like many of you, I had a rollercoaster of a year. I gave birth to my daughter, and within weeks my family lost my mom to an eight year battle with cancer. It rocked all of us.
For a moment, we lost sight of our purpose. Looking for a jumpstart, I returned to work. My first assignment was to lead the Brookwood film and it has brought me back to life.
The amazing Brookwood community instantly reminded me what is possible with a little unfiltered love.
The citizens at Brookwood have inspired me to see the world through a different perspective. One filled with joy and gratitude.
They teach me it’s ok to set big goals and celebrate small victories.
They show me how to appreciate simple tasks and always use my imagination.
It is that spark that we want to share with you, and we would like you to help us share it with the world.
Thank you for supporting our film. It is an honor to tell this story.
Ariel, I cannot wait to see this film! I love that it was done in memory of Gracy, she was such an amazing woman!! Your parents have always been so proud of you. I am sure they are beaming with joy over you getting the word out about Brookwood ❤️
