This week our team was able to watch the first internal draft of the film.
As a team we will always second guess our work. However Adnan, one of the producers on this film, had a reaction that solidified our belief that we are, in deed, on to something. He reminded us why we decided to create this film in the first place.
I met Adnan almost a decade ago when I was a student teacher in a special education classroom. He worked alongside me and was one of my first examples of how capable this population can be when given a chance.
Eight years later we are still working together, now at Chispa House.
After watching the film for the first time, Adnan was quiet. I sat down with him and asked him what he thought, and he started to cry. He related to the film on a level that I was not expecting. He felt SEEN and kept repeating:
“That’s just like me and my family. My music and my work. It can be so hard to grow up, but I’m so happy”.
Our goal from day one was to create a film that represented the Brookwood Citizens’ voices. To tell their story and allow people to peek inside their world and understand that we are all the same.
Adnan’s response has given us the motivation we need to push through the finishing touches, which is great timing because the premiere is just a few months away!!
Tickets will be released NEXT MONTH!!! You’ll hear it here first, so be sure to subscribe and share with any friends who will want to attend this special, red carpet event.
